(KYIV, UKRAINE) – Ukraine has received a second tranche of approximately 690 million US dollars from the International Monetary Fund under a new four year programme, Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi announced on Friday.
In a statement posted on his Telegram channel, the prime minister confirmed that the funds had already arrived in the state budget. Converted at current exchange rates, the tranche equals roughly 540 million British pounds or 605 million euros.
“Ukraine today received the second tranche of about 690 million dollars from the IMF under the new four year programme. The funds have already been transferred to the state budget,” Koretskyi said.
The prime minister noted that the money would be used to support macrofinancial stability in Ukraine, specifically to finance priority expenditures. The disbursement provides further backing for the government’s balance of payments as the country continues to manage the economic pressures of the ongoing war.
The IMF Executive Board completed the first review of Ukraine’s new programme under the Extended Fund Facility. That decision opened the way for the release of the latest tranche. With this payment, the total volume of financing provided to Ukraine within the new EFF programme now stands at about 2.2 billion US dollars.
The Daily Handle has previously reported that Ukraine has also agreed with the IMF on an updated schedule of reforms and additional policy commitments as part of the programme.
