(ZANZIBAR, TANZANIA) – Zanzibar President Hussein Mwinyi has launched the Aman Residency housing project worth 17 million US dollars in Kizimkazi, South Unguja. The project value is equal to TZS 44.97 billion or £13.4 million.
The project was launched on Thursday, 13 August 2026, as part of the Kizimkazi Festival 2026. President Mwinyi said the project is important for growing the economy of Kizimkazi and Zanzibar as a whole. He said the government will continue to create a friendly environment for investors.
After visiting the houses, President Mwinyi said he was satisfied with the standard of construction. He congratulated the investor for carrying out the project to a high quality. He said the government will keep creating a friendly environment for the private sector so it can take part fully in building the economy and development of the country.
President Mwinyi called on government leaders at all levels to continue promoting investment opportunities in their areas. He urged them to work with the private sector to ensure these opportunities benefit investors, citizens and the government.
He said the project has been built with the varied needs of residents in mind. It has rental housing, social services, relaxation areas, entertainment, sports and exercise facilities, and infrastructure that meets the needs of people with disabilities. He said this is the type of investment needed to achieve the goal of having better housing in different parts of the country.
President Mwinyi said the investment is a sign of confidence from local and foreign investors in the environment created by the government to attract investment. He said one of the aims of the Kizimkazi Festival is to promote investment opportunities in South Unguja Region including housing, business and hotels. He praised the South Unguja regional government for using the festival to promote investment opportunities in the area.
Shariff Ali Shariff is the Minister of State in the President’s Office for Labour and Investment. He said the project was registered with the Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority with a value of 17 million US dollars. The value has since increased due to further investment.
Shariff said South Unguja Region has 351 investment projects. Of these, 206 projects, equal to 74 percent, are in the commercial building, housing and hotel sectors. The projects are expected to create 16,673 jobs.
Mustapha Bay of Mohamed Enterprises is the contractor for the project. He said the investment will help provide services, increase investment and grow the economy of the area. The project is built on 11 acres. It has modern houses for living, relaxation, entertainment and sports.
Bay said there are three buildings with 64 residential rooms and two types of luxury villas. The villas can serve 82 families at a time.
Said Bopar is the investor in the project. He praised the government for creating a friendly environment for investors. He said the company will continue to invest in other major projects. He said the company is expanding business, increasing jobs and growing the economy. He thanked both governments for their cooperation and for making investment easier in various sectors.
Hamida Khamis Mussa is the head of South Unguja Region. She said the region is opening up to investment through major development projects, especially in the tourism sector.
