(ZANZIBAR, TANZANIA) – Kizimkazi Mikunguni village has won a modern fishing boat with all its equipment worth more than TZS 29 million after emerging as the winner in a sailing competition held during the Kizimkazi Festival. The boat value is equal to about $11,400 or £9,000.

The competition was held on Wednesday, 12 August 2026. It was sponsored by CRDB Bank and involved 20 participants from Kizimkazi Mikunguni and Kizimkazi Dimbani. The first and second winners came from Kizimkazi Mikunguni. This made the village the overall winner and it was handed the boat for fishing activities.

The first winner received TZS 1 million, equal to about $394 or £310. The second winner received TZS 800,000, equal to about $315 or £248. The third winner received TZS 500,000, equal to about $197 or £155. All prizes came from CRDB Bank.

Mwachumu Shaka Ali is the Sheha of Kizimkazi Mikunguni. He said the boat will help increase economic activities in the village. He said it will be used for the benefit of the village and will be used for fishing and other activities.

Nassor Hassan Khatib is the first winner. He thanked the sponsor for the prize and said it will help him strengthen his fishing activities. He said he won because of his training and thanked CRDB for the prize which will boost his fishing work.

Doto Biteko is the Member of Parliament for Bukombe. He was the official guest at the event. He said sports are an important tool for uniting citizens and building unity. He praised the organisers of the festival. He said President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Zanzibar President Hussein Mwinyi have made various efforts to bring development.

Biteko praised the founder of the Kizimkazi Festival, President Samia, saying it has become a source of development, jobs, entertainment and investment.

Frederick Nshekanabo is the Chief Finance Officer of CRDB Bank. He said the bank has been the sponsor of the sailing competition for seven consecutive years. He said besides providing financial services, the bank also focuses on carrying out social activities in areas where it operates. He said the bank ensures it involves citizens and provides social services wherever it operates and will continue to pursue that goal.

Othman Maulid Othman is the District Commissioner of South Unguja. He said the area has continued to benefit from various projects through the Kizimkazi Festival including road construction and blue economy activities. He said the district has increased incomes for citizens and grown the district and regional economy.

Peter Magoti is the District Commissioner of Kisarawe. He congratulated government leaders for their creativity and efforts to bring development to both sides of the United Republic of Tanzania.
