(KYIV, UKRAINE) – The share of new petrol powered passenger cars sold in Ukraine rose to 38.7 percent of the market in July 2026, up from 35.1 percent in the same month a year earlier, according to data released by the Ukrainian Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association, Ukravtoprom.
Vehicles fitted with traditional combustion engines together accounted for more than 61 percent of new car registrations during the month. That compares with about 54 percent in July 2025. Hybrid vehicle sales jumped sharply over the period, climbing from 21.2 percent to 31.2 percent of the market. Diesel cars increased their share from 18.7 percent to 22.6 percent.
At the same time, the electric vehicle segment contracted notably. Electric models dropped from 24.7 percent of new sales in July 2025 to just 7.3 percent in July 2026. Cars fitted with liquefied petroleum gas equipment, as in the previous year, accounted for less than one percent of the new vehicle market.
The top selling models by category were the Hyundai Tucson for petrol cars, the Toyota RAV4 for hybrids, the Volkswagen Touareg for diesel vehicles, the BYD Sea Lion 06 for electric cars and the Hyundai Tucson for LPG equipped models.
Total new passenger car registrations in July 2026 fell by 10.5 percent compared with the same period last year. The average price of a new car in Ukraine currently sits at around 1.1 million hryvnia, equivalent to roughly $26,700, £21,300 or €24,600. The strong shift back towards petrol and hybrid models reverses a trend seen in earlier years when electric vehicle adoption was accelerating. Industry analysts link the change partly to the reliability of conventional engines in conditions where power supply can be unstable and charging infrastructure remains underdeveloped outside major cities.
