(WASHINGTON, USA) – United States President Donald Trump is facing a lawsuit over the sale of early access to his posts on Truth Social. The case was filed by the media organisation The Intercept Media and the nonprofit group Freedom of the Press Foundation.
Trump Media, the parent company of Truth Social, said in July that it would give subscribers to its Truth API service early access to posts by Trump and other platform users. The company said the service could appeal to users capable of “influencing the market”. Subscribers pay up to 100,000 US dollars per month (about 137,000 Canadian dollars, or roughly 78,000 British pounds).
The plaintiffs said the arrangement violates constitutional principles. “This scheme is extraordinary, corrupt, and unconstitutional, and the plaintiffs are bringing this lawsuit to stop it,” the lawsuit states.
The legal action centres on whether a sitting president can sell information advantages through a private platform. Critics argue that early access to market sensitive posts creates an unfair system where paying subscribers can act before the wider public.
Trump Media has defended the service as a standard commercial offering for professional users. The company has not said how many subscribers have signed up for the early access tier.
The lawsuit adds to a series of legal and political disputes involving the president.
In related news, Trump said he would be happy to run for a third presidential term, but current law does not allow it. He made the comments in response to reporters’ questions.
“I would gladly run, but the law is very strict. Everyone is asking me to do it, everyone wants me to do it, but the law is very strict,” Trump said.
The 22nd Amendment to the United States Constitution states that one person cannot be elected president more than twice. Trump served as president from 2017 to 2021. He took office for a second time in 2025 after winning the 2024 election.
In separate comments on August 11, 2026, Trump welcomed the return of former United States Marine Robert Gilman from Russia. Trump said Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to release Gilman on humanitarian grounds without a prisoner exchange.
The White House and the State Department had earlier called on Moscow to release Gilman so he could receive treatment in the United States. His family had warned that the 32 year old man was on the verge of death.
Gilman is currently on his way to a military hospital in Texas. He will undergo medical and psychological examinations and receive treatment there.
Trump said Gilman had only one request after returning to the United States. “I just spoke with him, and he had one request, a great cheeseburger when he lands. I’ll take care of that,” Trump said.
Putin pardoned Gilman on August 11, 2026, according to media reports.
