(KYIV, UKRAINE) – Ukraine’s farmers have harvested 26.13 million tonnes of grain from the new crop, reaching 49 percent of the forecast area, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food reported on 11 August 2026.
The early grain and legume harvest has covered 5.63 million hectares so far. Wheat accounts for the bulk of the volume, with 19.74 million tonnes collected from 4.07 million hectares at an average yield of 48.5 centners per hectare. Barley output stands at 5.68 million tonnes from 1.29 million hectares, yielding 44.1 centners per hectare. Pea production reached 712,300 tonnes from 276,900 hectares at a yield of 25.7 centners per hectare.
Based on indicative export prices, the harvested wheat volume alone carries a notional market value of roughly $3.9 billion (£3.1 billion), though actual revenues depend on delivery terms and destination markets.
Three southern regions are leading in total collection volumes. Farmers in Odesa region have threshed 4.06 million tonnes from 960,500 hectares, comprising 2.53 million tonnes of wheat, 1.28 million tonnes of barley and 241,100 tonnes of peas. Kirovohrad region has gathered 2.33 million tonnes from 536,500 hectares, including 1.84 million tonnes of wheat. Mykolaiv region also recorded 2.33 million tonnes, threshed from 653,800 hectares, with wheat making up 1.63 million tonnes of that total.
The highest grain yields are being recorded further west. Khmelnytskyi region leads with 69.6 centners per hectare, followed by Ternopil region at 61.9 centners per hectare and Vinnytsia region at 59.7 centners per hectare.
The rapeseed harvest is also proceeding. As of the reporting date, 1.19 million hectares have been threshed, yielding 3.22 million tonnes of seed at an average yield of 27.1 centners per hectare.
Ukraine has requested support from its American partners to purchase equipment for temporary grain storage directly on farms. The request reflects concern over a potential shortage of elevator capacity after more than 180 Russian strikes on the port infrastructure of Greater Odesa during 2026 halted operations at three deep water ports. Those ports previously handled over 90 percent of Ukraine’s agricultural exports.
With the overall harvest forecast at 81.37 million tonnes, the Ministry has warned that the storage capacity deficit could reach 11 million tonnes by late autumn.
