(KYIV, UKRAINE) – Ukrzaliznytsia has returned to its normal operating schedule after mass Russian attacks forced changes to train timetables and ticket sales restrictions.

The railway carried a record 104,000 passengers on 9 August. The company announced the figure on Facebook.

The first ten days of August tested the endurance of railway workers. Besides the aftermath of shelling, extreme heat also affected operations.

“Ukrzaliznytsia is used to the enemy’s treachery and is always ready to put plan B or C into action. To ensure passengers reached their stations with minimal delays, our team introduced reserve routes, brought in additional locomotives and arranged transfers to electric trains and buses,” the company said.

The most difficult situation was in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Ticket sales were restricted there for a time due to the security situation. Tickets are now on sale again as usual, within 20 days before departure.

Despite the disruption, the railway carried 21,000 passengers between Dnipro and Kyiv in both directions alone.

On 9 August, Ukrzaliznytsia set a new daily record of 104,000 passengers.

“In total, between 1 and 10 August, the number of our passengers fell just short of one million at 937,000,” the company added.

Ukraine and Moldova have agreed a 50 percent discount on transit rail freight for Ukrainian cargo.
