Russia Orsk Refinery Suspends Oil Processing After Attack

(ORSK, RUSSIA) – The Orsknefteorgsintez oil refinery in Russia stopped processing oil on Tuesday, 11 August, after a fire caused by a Ukrainian drone attack.

Reuters reported the shutdown citing two industry sources.

The drones attacked the plant, which is located about 1,900 kilometres east of the border with Ukraine. Ukraine’s military confirmed the attack.

Industry sources said the drones damaged some of the refinery’s processing units.

Forteinvest, the company that owns the refinery, did not respond to a request for comment.

The Orsk refinery has a nominal capacity of 5.76 million tonnes per year, or about 115,200 barrels per day.

According to sources, the plant processed 4.2 million tonnes of crude oil in 2024. It produced 1.8 million tonnes of diesel fuel, 600,000 tonnes of petrol, 500,000 tonnes of bitumen and 200,000 tonnes of fuel oil.

A large fire broke out at the refinery after the drone attack on the city of Orsk in Russia’s Orenburg region.
