(KYIV, UKRAINE) – Wholesale prices for greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine have dropped to a range of 30 to 60 Ukrainian hryvnia per kilogramme, a level roughly 25 percent lower than the same period last year. At current exchange rates, the price band of 30 to 60 hryvnia per kilogramme equates to approximately 0.72 to 1.44 US dollars, 0.56 to 1.12 British pounds and 0.65 to 1.30 euros per kilogramme.
Analysts from the EastFruit project reported that weather conditions have stabilised in many regions of the country, allowing harvesting of open field vegetables to accelerate. Harvesting is now under way in practically all regions of Ukraine, adding to the downward pressure on market prices.
As of 9 August, farm gate prices for quality tomatoes had fallen to 30 to 60 hryvnia per kilogramme (0.67 to 1.34 dollars per kilogramme at the time of reporting), an average drop of 27 percent compared with the end of the previous working week. Farmers report that demand on the fresh market remains insufficiently strong.
Product quality is an additional factor weighing on prices. Drought and high temperatures have caused significant damage to plants, with some fruit showing sunburn marks and cracks. This reduces the marketable appearance of the produce and makes sales more difficult.
Overall, greenhouse tomatoes are being offered on the Ukrainian market at an average price 25 percent below mid August levels recorded last year.
Separately, wholesale carrot prices in Ukraine have fallen by an average of 10 percent over the past week, driven by an oversupply of the root vegetable on the market. The country imported 4.704 billion US dollars worth of agricultural products in the first six months of 2026, equal to roughly 3.69 billion British pounds and 4.28 billion euros, an increase of 8 percent compared to the same period a year earlier
