(KYIV, UKRAINE) – Ukraine’s Energy Headquarters has reviewed forecast electricity and gas balances under multiple winter scenarios, examining the progress of repairs at generating facilities and the installation of additional protective measures at critical infrastructure sites.
Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi chaired the meeting and heard reports from the First Vice Prime Minister and Energy Minister, as well as from the heads of state and private energy companies. Those presenting included Naftogaz, Ukrenergo, Energoatom, Ukrhydroenergo, Centrenergo, DTEK and the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine.
Koretskyi said the group had analysed in detail the state of repair works on generating capacity and the fitting of extra protection. He directed all parties to focus on two priorities, namely the defence of critical infrastructure facilities and the creation of reserve stocks of fuel and equipment to allow rapid restoration of damaged sites.
The meeting also identified areas where work must be accelerated without delay, taking into account the increasing intensity and changing nature of Russian strikes. Koretskyi said it was important for energy companies to work ahead of events and to take on additional responsibility.
The Energy Ministry has been tasked with coordinating and monitoring the execution of instructions issued following the meeting.
Separately, as part of Kyiv’s city resilience plan, cogeneration facilities totalling about 60 megawatts have already been built out of a planned 200 megawatts by the end of the year. President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that not a single power plant in Ukraine remains undamaged.
