(KYIV, UKRAINE) – Ukraine is pressing ahead with reforms, energy modernisation and damage assessment work in close coordination with the World Bank, Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi said following a telephone call with the Bank’s Managing Director of Operations, Anna Bjerde.
Koretskyi stated that the discussion covered the continuation of reforms, the annual preparation of the Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment report to measure losses caused by Russian aggression, and the roll out of programmes that will support energy modernisation and wider economic development in Ukraine.
The Prime Minister thanked the entire World Bank team for its backing of Ukraine. He singled out the SPUR 2 initiative, a facility designed to open pathways for private capital to flow into the country’s reconstruction effort. Koretskyi also invited Bjerde to visit Kyiv.
Ukraine is now readying itself for the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group, which are scheduled to take place in October.
The phone call builds on an already active partnership. Ukraine and the World Bank have moved into the next phase of preparing an updated Energy Strategy. A full analysis of the country’s energy balance, including generation structure, consumption patterns, sector challenges and recovery prospects, has already been completed. The next step involves drafting a Concept Paper that will set out a unified vision for Ukraine’s energy sector in the near future and the path to reach those goals.
